Greetings from the Sankara Nethralaya Elite School of Optometry, Kolkata! It gives me immense pleasure and pride to invite you all to the 2nd Dr. S. S. Badrinath Memorial Optometry Scientific Session, a landmark event that honors the legacy of the Late Padma Bhushan Dr. Sengamedu Srinivasa Badrinath. Dr. S.S. Badrinath recognized the critical shortage of skilled vision care professionals in India’s eye care delivery system. To address this gap, he laid the foundation for the Elite School of Optometry in 1985 in Chennai, ensuring the training of highly qualified optometrists to meet the nation’s primary eye care needs. His tireless dedication created a ripple effect, inspiring generations of professionals to continue his mission of delivering accessible, high-quality eye care. While he was often referred to as a "living legend," his absence is a poignant reminder of the profound impact of his work, which continues to illuminate the path for future medical professionals. As part of his vision, the Sankara Nethralaya Elite School of Optometry, Kolkata, was inaugurated in August 2024 to produce a new generation of optometrists dedicated to serve the growing need for quality vision care in West Bengal and beyond. It is with great pride that we bring back our national conference in Kolkata for the second time, organized in fond memory of our guiding light, Dr. S.S. Badrinath.

We have chosen “Contact Lens Chronicles: From Pediatrics to Presbyopes” as the theme for this year’s Dr. S. S. Badrinath Memorial Optometry Scientific Session. From early myopia management in children to presbyopic corrections in adults, this theme highlights the art and science of customizing contact lenses for all. Through case-based and evidence-driven discussions, we aim to explore how tailored lens designs can optimize comfort, vision, and ocular health across various age groups. This scientific session is unique as it also provides a platform for students and eye care practitioners to present their original research and case reports.

As we gather for this scientific celebration, let us honor the enduring vision of Dr. S.S. Badrinath by continuing to elevate the standards of optometric care, education, and research in our country.
